MORE ACT of 2020 Header

In an historic vote on December 4 2020, the US House of Representatives voted to legalize marijuana at a Federal level, paving the way for marijuana to be removed from the list of federally controlled substances, and an end of offenses for possession, production and sale of marijuana under the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937.

The vote would also include expungement of record of offenses, and an implementation of a Federal Excise Tax.

Moving forward, the Bill will next face the Republican-controlled Senate, where it is likely to face challenges or a potential block by Mitch McConnell (R-Ky).

The fate of the Bill itself could rest heavily on the current fight for Senate control, where Democrats are fighting to flip seats in Georgia. Should these seats flip, Democrats will take control of the Senate which could determine the outcome.

While the vote was a landmark decision, there are still obstacles in place, meaning the likelihood of a decision may take some time.
